The Embroidery Room (No. 8)
Hotel Modez (2012)

In 2011, Piet Paris (illustrator/ art director) invited me to design a room for the newly built fashion hotel, Hotel Modez, in Arnhem. I was assigned the theme “The Embroidery Room.”

To develop the concept, I first embroidered a scaled-down version of the room, using abstracted bridal appliqués as a basis. Since creating a full-scale embroidered wall was impractical, I digitally scanned the embroidery and transformed it into wallpaper and curtains, preserving the original texture.

As a final touch, the pearls from the embroidery were magnified and hand-blown in collaboration with the National Glass Museum in Leerdam. These glass pearls now adorn the wall above the bed.
