Mourning Embroidery

My client asked me to make an embroidery from horsehair. In memory of her deceased horse, Aaltje. I had never worked with horsehair before. And it turned out not to be that simple. The hair broke easily and was coarse. It didn't do what I had in mind. Traditional embroidery was not an option.

Then I came up with the idea of not literally embroidering with it, but using it as a base. Then embroider a pattern over it with the machine, which attached the horsehair. This became my template and then I started working through it by hand again. This created a very individual work.
