April not only brings spring but also the delicate bloom of the wild fritillary. With its deep red-purple checkered pattern and fragile appearance, this flower is a rare gem in the Dutch landscape. Unfortunately, it can now only be found in a few places in the Netherlands, with the majority growing along the riverbanks of the Overijsselse Vecht and the Zwarte Water near Hasselt. Out of nostalgia for ‘all that changes or disappears,’ I have translated this flower into textile, using carefully chosen colors and textures that evoke a sense of longing.
